WHAT WE DO

Banca del Fare, a project of the Association Onlus Parco Culturale Alta Langa, will deliver a continuoous and first hand
approach using the concepts of good practice and exchange of ideas. First goal is the transmission of ancient
knowledge about the preservation of the architectural heritage. The “built” landscape is the topic that can sum up our
culture and is the narrative network that links history, memory, our places and our traditions. Unfortunatly this heritage is
being degraded at an alarming rate and will soon disappear from the landscape. In a few years no one will be able to
reclaim it since so much will have been lost.It is however a fact that there are artisan teachers who still have the skills to
make rooftops andstone walls, or traditional carpentry with local wood or antique mortar plaster but they are retiring from
their work life and so their knowledge will be irretrievably lost.

Practical laboratories allow you to practise and experiment using 1:1 scale, by analizing and understanding the
construction through direct contact. The buildings to be reclaimed will be our classrooms and the craftsmen who still
know how to build a roof with “ciape” (typical stones)will be our instructors assisted by young architects who have
already experienced these techniques.
Cascina Crocetta is a small stone hamlet, 500 metres above sea level, bordering one of the oldest beech woodlands in
Piedmont in the heart of a beautiful and unspoiled landscape which is rich in traditional architecturally significant
properties. Here is the place where parteicipants take part to different activities, like workshops, outdoor film shows ,
dinners and events. In Cascina Crocetta there are 15 beds, located in rooms restored durung summer school 2016.
Inside village there is a oven used for dinners and events “open doors”also extended to local residents. Breakfast, lunch
and dinner are prepared in the village kitchen, by two chefs who alternate the food preparation. Alternatives are available
to cater for allergies and lifestyle choices.
Events and conferences will be held by leading figures in historical restoration and will include, anthropology of housing,
'self-build', experimentation using innovative materials, the techniques used and study of new scenarios in territorial
development.
