REFURBISHMENT AND POLISHING (27/02/2016)
After a university education in cultural heritage, I decided to turn my passion for wood working in a job that I love deeply and that allows me to carry on the ancient tradition of the city I live.
My shop is located in a little square of Venice, a surprisingly quiet and relaxing corner out of the tourist hotspots, where you can still feel the authentic Venetian life.
In my lab I restore antique furniture using techniques and materials that belong to the tradition: I use hard glue that is persistent and completely reversible, which is essential for restorations; as finish I use shellac stamp pads, which makes the piece of forniture warm and pleasant to the touch.
With scrap wood and recycled material I produce unique handcrafted items, preferring the use of hand tools (planes, rasps, chisels) and natural finish materials (shellac, oils, waxes).
Even old furniture or various wooden objects forgotten in the basement can be revitalized and eventually transformed into original artifacts that fit to modern needs.

Splendido paio d'ore trascorso nell'ordinatissimo (ma pieno di attrezzi) laboratorio di Valentina. Mi ha spiegato , e poi fatto provare , la tecnica della verniciatura a gommalacca , per la quale aveva preparato delle tavole a vari livelli di lavorazione , in modo che potessi testare i vari step della procedura. Abbiamo poi parlato , dietro mia richiesta , di vari altri sistemi e prodotti (cere , mordenti , etc.) . Alla fine ho dovuto appuntarmi i vari discorsi perchè i temi affrontati (ed esaurientemente esposti ) erano stati tanti. Persona molto disponibile , si è dichiarata disposta a chiarirmi eventuali dubbi via mail nel prossimo futuro.Sono andato via con la testa piena di utili suggerimenti e due utili omaggi in mano. Consigliatissima a chi vuole approfondire (o iniziare a capire ) i temi del restauro e della verniciatura a gommalacca.
