CROCKERY SOAP HOLDER (01/02/2018)
I am a collector - of objects, stories and experiences. I've always collected wood, stones and various other objects from beaches, rivers and woods. The more these pieces are worn down by time and bad weather the more they fascinate me. Taking care of objects in decay sharpens our eyes.
Everything - creatures and artifacts - is constantly changing, in a never ending cycle. But in this transformation everything is safe: because although nothing remains how it was, nothing also gets lost.
I am German and have a strong love of pottery which I have studied my whole life, I moved to the Como province more than 30 years ago. It is in this place I raised my daughter, after having first gotten a degree in foreign languages and literature, I then worked in a court of law and in publishing. I always found inspiration in literature, art, history and nature.
In 2012, after a five year course, I received a diploma in Design of Ceramic Materials in Germany, and in 2013 I opened my workshop in Como in a building that used to be a convent. The place is full of history that you can clearly feel when you see the arches and walls that give the building a unique atmosphere. It is wonderful working in such a place!
Today I will welcome in to my workshop people with a curious nature, and will teach them to create ceramics, letting wood and stone guide their hand and help complete their work, these pieces will then become your every day tools or gifts for your loved ones.
I believe in my work: we have to respect our memories, give value to what exists and make our dreams a reality, with our own hands.

CROCKERY SOAP HOLDER (01/02/2018)
Grazie Agnes. |
CROCKERY SOAP HOLDER
Agnes, ceramist
As we are on the Como lake you will give your soap holder the shape of a stylized fish. To decorate, you will use stones, fabrics, seashells and other objects to imprint on your still fresh piece. At the end of this project your works will dry for a few days in the workshop, then after the first baking session I will fill in the print that you have made with a white polish and then bake the pieces for a second time at 1020 degrees centigrade. The finished soap holder will then be sent to your address - if you live in Italy the sending price is included in the course.

PRINTING AND ENGRAVING
Agnes, ceramist
I also love engravings along with printing techniques on nylon slabs, in my workshop I have a press roller that will allow us to print manually. All you have to bring with you - apart from comfortable clothes and a apron - is a nice photo or a drawing (if you do not have one we will provide one for you). In the first part of this workshop you will engrave what you wish on the nylon sheet with a cold engraving needle. Then we will have a brief rest in the atelier, have a chat and a small vegetarian lunch (glass of wine included). We will then start again and prepare the stencil to be printed: colored or not they will be put to soak. When the paper and your stencils are ready we will print a first copy to check the quality of the engravings: if you are not satisfied with some of the details you will have the opportunity to correct them. After that we will do the final print! You will be able to take home the various copies in a folder along with your stencil. If the copies are still too wet to bring home I will send them to you during the next few days (the sending price to Italy is included in the price of the workshop).

PRINTING ATELIER IN COMO
Agnes, ceramist
I welcome into my workshop people with a curious nature, and will teach them how to create with their hand pieces that will become your everyday tools or gifts for your loved ones. During this visit, you will discover how the printing process works, using several small, ready-made matrices. At your arrival, first of all we will moisturing the papers, to make them ready for the printing phase. After illustrating the engraving process, the tools and the colors, we will create the copies from the matrices. At the end of the visit everyone will receive a small postcard print, as a souvenir of the experience. At the end, fresh or hot tea for everyone!
