Welcome to the island of Burano. This is the Venetian island with the colored houses. We are Martina and Sergio, brother and sister. Since 1991 we began commercializing the typical needle laces of Burano. Most of them have been realized by the grandmothers and aunties of the family for 4 generations. At the beginning there was just a small shop. Now our atelier is located in a 3 floors building. We have a specific area reserved to the old family laces Collection, our little museum. We take care of linens for the house. We are also proud of the tradition and the history of the island we are born in. We can thus offer new collections revisited in a new and innovative way. The visit to our atelier will give you the chance to assist to the manufacturing of the laces. You will be immersed in the history of this craft. It will seem to you to be back to the past. At the time when the Venetian laces fringed necklines and wristbands of the shirts of aristocrats and of the powerful person of the great European courts. We will tell you some interesting stories. Such as how, back in the XVI century, the Doge's wife Morosina Morosini Grimani, used to make gifts to her noblewomen friends. These gifts were handkerchiefs, fans and vestments made out of laces. Another one is the reason why in 1872nd was born the Laces Schools exactly in the island of Burano.

LACE DEMONSTRATION

The visit envisages a tour in an atelier where the lace-makers still create laces products. They do it by the Needle Laces technique, respecting the ancient Venetian traditions. During the show we will tell you stories, anecdotes and witnesses of the Venetian laces dated back to the XV century. Moreover you may try to create a product, thanks to the help and the advises of the lace-makers. Finally you can visit the small Museum of ancient laces, the Family Collection.
