I am a sculptor and I work with a white chalky stone that is typical of Salento, where I live. I use to combine it sometimes with wood and iron in order to create sculptures and everyday objects trough the traditional technique of the Salento’s masons.
I use exclusively hand tools and I reinterpret the Lecce’s Baroque embedding it in my wider contemporary design perspective. I like to have sculpture performance during en plein air events and I love to share this ancient craft with the others.
My lab is a special place, it is surrounded by a lush garden full of olive and citrus trees, typical of my amazing land.
Those who are interested in seeing the transformation of a humble stone into a sculpture and to know firsthand the Salento’ stone-carving are more than welcome.
Chisels, gouges and hammers will be your work tools for a day!

CARVE THE WHITE CHALKY STONE

I propose a full day hands-on workshop (eight hours; eg. 09:00 to 17:00 hours) in which you can visit the laboratory and the sculptures exhibition, watch me while I'm working with mallet and chisels, and try realize a small manufact under my guidnce. I will provide everything you need to work and the apprentices-visitorswill take away what they have achieved. A little eating time is scheduled, so that you can taste the flavors of Salento in my amazing garden.

I propose you a 3 hours long meeting consisting in a lab visit, a display of my creations, an introductory lesson to comprehend the typical Baroque from Lecce and to get familiar with the material (Lecce chalky stone), and a demonstration of baroque sculpture. You will then have a breakfast in my garden, so that you can taste the authentic Pasticciotti from Galatina, an amazing and unique pastry!
