YOUR MICROMOSAIC JEWEL (19/05/2023)
We are Alessandra and Silvia, master mosaicists and great friends.
Our encounter with mosaic was accidental and changed, perhaps like all accidents, our lives.
Ours is a humanistic background but we have always preferred to work with our hands.
ifferent paths have led us to make cut mosaic, the traditional one made with a hammer and cutter, our profession.
Then the chance and fortunate meeting with the Master mosaicist Maria Teresa Vacchini who taught us the Roman Minute Spun Mosaic better known as micromosaic...always mosaic, same texture, but completely different technique.
Now we use pliers, props and fire and thanks to Maria Teresa we learned the secrets of this ancient craft, that only very few of us know in the whole world.
We are fascinated by the micromosaic technique, that has its roots in the history of Roma. We also love the possibility of being able to create -through spinning of enamel- tesserae as thin as a hair, as well as even the size of a centimeter, depending on the intended use: painting, jewelry, etc.
Spun mosaic originated in the Vatican in the second half of the 1700s, when it was decided to replace painted originals with copies that would not perish over time.
Thus was born the need to achieve both the compactness of painting and the infinite shades of color that could not be achieved with stone.
Mosaic enamels are placed in a crucible and, with the aid of fire and props, are melted and mixed. Using special tongs, the mixture is shaped and pulled until long, thin rods, known as "thecae," are obtained.
The same tools have always been used, but this does not prevent experimentation and creativity.
The "savoir faire" is inseparable from the creation of the work and this is what wins us over every time.

Splendida esperienza! Grazie ad Alessandra , dopo un excursus storico, ho imparato le basi di questa tecnica poco conosciuta e realizzato un anello che ho indossato subito. È stato un bellissimo regalo di compleanno.

In this experience we offer you something absolutely unique, a journey through the history of micromosaic! We will then show you the spinning of the glazes for the preparation of the tesserae and the authentic composition of the stucco. You will then be able to choose a semi-finished piece of jewelry that you will complete by making your own micromosaic. At the end of the workshop you will take home your own unique and original piece of jewelry!

DISCOVER THE MICROMOSAIC
Alessandra e Silvia, mosaic
We will welcome you to the workshop and, for about 40 minutes, you will be able to immerse yourself in the world of micromosaics. After a historical introduction on the birth of this fantastic and almost unknown technique, you will watch a demonstration of "spinning." This is how, starting from the second half of the 1700s, the base material used in our craft had been prepared. Next we will show you how "stucco" is made, another fundamental element on which the tiles that will make up the mosaic are placed. You will then be able to observe our work in progress, we will answer all your questions and curiosities.
