My craft was born from a personal desire to create exclusive ceramics, well-finished in every phase of the process, original objects that are a perfect mix of tradition and innovation. I started painting in 1975 as apprentice in a laboratory in Deruta, which is always one of the most important Italian centers for the manufacture of ceramics, and then finally, in 1986, I’ve been able to start my own personal lab.
In my laboratory, located in the old city centre, we realize original artistic ceramics, unique pieces fully designed by us or special items made on the client’s request. From the beginning my work was characterized by its consistency with the tradition of the artistic ceramic’s manufacturing, however, accompanied by a push for innovation and originality, expressed in the creation of various lines of decor that told the earth and the landscape from which the clay comes from. My painting was in fact created by the sensations suggested by the colors of the area where I was born: greens, yellows, browns decorations outline glimpses rich of nature, history and tradition which I tried to reinterpret somehow. The creative process I follow is both linear and full of complexity: I choose the terracotta’s object that is going to be decorated, I smooth it, I dust it and I submerge it in a bath of white shellac. Once the object is dry, I touch up the piece and then I paint it. The colors I use are lands and metallic oxide powders mixed with water. I love mixing colors to get many nuances: being able to paint the endless variations of green of a forest is a challenge for me ... and a splash of fire red can give life to my ceramics. My experience led me to run the freehand decoration with immediacy and spontaneity, not only with the awareness that every time I’m the protagonist of a real creative act, but also with the suspense that this entails and that every ceramist has before a kiln load of his creations is opened.
